ART PROGRAM
Mrs. Susan Moran, BA, FA
Through the study and practice of art at the Howard School, students acquire greater problem solving skills, they expand their ways of communicating, and they develop a greater understanding of cultures, oneself and others.
ART PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
There are four major goals for the art program:
1. The growth of aesthetic awareness and sensitivity.
2. Creative and critical thinking and problem solving.
3. The acquisition of art skills.
4. Individual personal expression.
In my opinion, art is a process not a product. The development of the creative process as it is learned by the student is the true product of the art program.
GRADING:
Students are not graded on natural talent, but rather on a set of criteria which is attainable by all. These criteria include:
·Is it the student’s own idea?
·Is maximum effort given?
·Is the problem being solved and are directions being followed?
·Is the work done neatly?
·Is the work finished on time?
·Does the student have a positive attitude while doing the work?
HOMEWORK:
Homework will be assigned occasionally with the students given ample time to complete the assignment. If the homework is not completed by the due date, credit will be deducted. Students must realize that an assignment in art is as valid as one in any other subject.
