SCHOOL LIBRARY PROGRAM

School Librarian, Marie Dowling,  B.ed.

The primary objective of the school library program is to enrich and support the instructional program of the school. Our collection supports the curriculum by providing a wide range of materials with varying levels of difficulty. We strive to maintain and expand our resources in order to assist students in their studies.

The instructional time spent in the library focuses on three main goals.

• The first goal is to develop skills needed to use the library and its resources.

• The second is to develop an appreciation for the library as a resource for educational and recreational reading, and research. The library offers opportunities for all individuals at different levels of ability and diverse areas of interest.

•  The third goal is to develop self motivation. Each student should be able to fully utilize the library to direct individual learning and to maintain good library user habits. A variety of techniques and methods are utilized to accomplish the above goals.

No school library can provide all the information resources needed. Our students are exposed to the resources of the public library.

Once a month all classes walk to the West Bridgewater Public Library. This occurs on the first full week of each month.  Students are asked to bring their library cards.
