HOMEWORK POLICY-GRADE 6 Homework is important because it is a valuable part in the learning process. You can learn how to schedule your time and form better work habits. Why assign homework? 1. To improve independent work habits. 2. To help you prepare for the future years. 3. To follow the school curriculum. What kind of homework? 1. Finish any work not completed in classroom. 2. Long range assignments -work that is assigned with a due date of one, two or more weeks in advance. 3. Regular assigned papers by your teacher. How often is homework assigned? 1. Monday -Thursday for at least 30- 60 minutes. 2. More time may be required for special assignments such as book reports, research papers and special projects. How should homework be done? 1. Neatly! 2. Math should always be done in pencil with correct heading. 3. Reports should be done on white lined paper with pen and margins. Typing or computers are also acceptable. Attractive covers are encouraged. What support can parents give? 1. Help child if needed but do not do his/her homework. 2. Spot check study guides and assignment notebooks. 3. Encourage the homework policy 4. Praise your child for work well done. What happens if homework is not turned in on time? 1. Students will be given a P.M. slip for 30 minutes to be served the following afternoon. 2. Three incomplete assignments in a row, a warning will be sent home. 3. Continuous incomplete assignments, a parent conference would be requested. What happens to a child when homework assignments are completed on schedule? 1. Positive reinforcement 2. Personal satisfaction Test Results: Any test paper in a major subject with a score below 70% must be signed by the parent and returned to the subject teacher the following day. Failure to return signed test will result in detention until the paper is returned. We hope this homework policy will help your child to have a successful school year!
